The American west, especially the desert southwest etched a lasting impression in my mind at an early age. I photograph the desert landscapes of the American west as a way to channel the isolation that is a component of our journey in life. Whether we seek to experience isolation or not, we all endure it during our life. These moments of isolation in the desert provide an opportunity to examine our time on earth, explore life and connect with the land. Time is a vital motif in my landscape photography as I believe time is one of the critical and emotional themes pertaining to our lives. We each are passing through time on earth, while the natural world around us stands still.
My loving wife Kim encouraged, and supported me to follow my dreams, to live, explore and photograph in the American west. We moved to the southwest U. S. where the landscape is mystical, exploring the deserts and sandstone canyons. The geological formations of the Colorado Plateau are continuously enlightening as they reveal their history. The Colorado Plateau is centered on the Four Corners region of the southwestern United States. Covering an area of 130,000 square miles within western Colorado, northwestern New Mexico, southern and eastern Utah, and northern Arizona. This relatively high semi-arid region produces many distinctive erosional and unique landscape features such as arches, arroyos, canyons, cliffs, fins, natural bridges, pinnacles, hoodoos, and monoliths.
